My original point of view
I don't like it very much when other people take advantage of this calamity for personal gain such as boosting their popularity and making themselves look good.
My different perspective (a very difficult one to take)
But then again, a lot of people idolize and admire these personalities. Seeing them do something good encourages and inspires them to do the same.
Lesson for the day
I guess in some situations, it doesn't matter that much if you have some ulterior motive, as long as you're still doing something good for others. Well for one, giving a boost to your popularity does not deal much damage to other people, does it? On the other hand, popularity turns out to be an effective stimulus for people to start doing something good.
My own realization
I believe this is the time where I stop rambling and start doing something good too.
sometimes, popularity is a motivation. put it this way, it is like performing well in your job for (say for example) a promotion, performance incentive, or getting regularized.
